Conducting a Readiness Assessment
To assist the Board of Directors in assessing the organization's
readiness to undertake a comprehensive planned giving program.
Techniques used in the assessment include a review of past and current
fund raising efforts and results, personal interviews with key
volunteers and staff, and written surveys.
The written assessment of the organization's readiness to undertake a
comprehensive planned giving program, includes identification of
strengths and weaknesses and strategies for addressing areas which are
perceived as inhibiting the organization's ability to undertake a
comprehensive planned giving program.
Development of Policies and Procedures
To assist the governing board and development, financial and legal staff
members in understanding the institutional implications of planned
giving programs with the goal of developing strategies, and policies and
procedures to effectively deal with the institutional responsibilities
inherent in such programs. Techniques used include review and discussion
of the materials designed by the firm entitled "Institutional
Implications of Planned Giving Programs." A Fund Raising Policy
Statement, policy on the Types of Planned Gifts Offered, and a policies
and procedures manual with board and staff assignment for solicitation
and negotiation of planned gifts, review and recommendation on the
desirability of accepting offered gifts, acceptance and processing of
planned gifts, and management of planned gifts are developed.
Evaluations and Audits of Planned Giving Programs
Review the effectiveness of ongoing planned giving programs
Identify strengths and weaknesses of current programs
Make recommendations for the future, including complexity of the
program, budget and staffing requirements
Comprehensive Fund and Campaign Assistance
Fund Raising Program Planning, Development and Implementation
Assessment of current fund raising programs and fund raising potential;
and the development and implementation of a fund raising plan complete
with program goals and dollar goals and objectives taking into
consideration the image and status of the organization in the community,
the short-term and long-range direction of the organization and the
anticipated commitment to fund raising by the governing board and the
administrative leadership of the organization.
Fund Raising Education/Training for Staff
Coordinated as part of the implementation of the fund development plan,
fund raising education and training includes the training and teaching
of an experienced or totally inexperienced staff in specific fund
raising techniques, such as annual giving and major gift campaigns.
Capital Campaign Feasibility Studies
One of the most important aspects of preparation for a capital campaign.
A feasibility study will help determine whether the organization can
successfully conduct a capital campaign to raise a specific amount of
resources, determine campaign leadership, perspective donors and a
campaign timetable.
Organization and Direction of Capital Campaigns
Including the development of a campaign plan, budget and time schedule,
direction and assistance in the recruitment of campaign leadership,
donor prospecting, development and production of campaign materials,
direction and assistance to the organization in solicitation, pledge
collection and donor recognition.
Other Available Services
Including the organization and implementation of annual and major gift
programs; memorial and honor gift programs; and special support
group/special event programs.
Charitable Gift Planning and Design
We assist charitable organizations in the solicitation and negotiation
of specific planned gifts including review of the personal and financial
goals of specific individuals and families to design the most
appropriate gift proposal for each individual and family. Services may
include all or any of the following: meeting with individuals or
families and their advisors, preparing calculations of the tax
implications of various gift options, drafting illustrations and
proposals, providing sample documents to the donor's advisors or
reviewing documents drawn by their advisors. We also assist professional
advisors, including attorneys, accountants, financial planners, trust
officers and investment managers in the design of charitable gift plans
for their clients and the drafting and review of legal documents.
